Principal, Transformation (Energy & Utilities) - London
You are the future leaders of our business. You will lead our major transformation projects, manage and develop key accounts, and play a vital role in growing junior members of the team.
Our Energy & Utilities work is growing, creating opportunities to work on significant transformation challenges within complex organisations. As we continue to grow, we are looking for Principals who can combine outstanding transformation delivery with strong client relationships, team leadership and the appetite to take on increasing responsibility for developing our work.
The opportunity
As a Principal at Gate One, you will lead complex transformation engagements, bringing structure and momentum to some of our clients’ most important challenges.
This is first and foremost a transformation leadership role. You do not need to be a career Energy & Utilities specialist. We are interested in accomplished management consultants who have successfully led complex programmes and can rapidly understand a new organisation, challenge and sector context.
You will have the opportunity to take significant ownership within major client accounts: leading strategically important work, developing trusted relationships with senior stakeholders and leading high-performing consulting teams.
Alongside leading complex transformation delivery, you will play an active role in growing client relationships, identifying opportunities and helping develop strategically important accounts.
You will
Lead complex transformation engagements
Lead significant transformation programmes and workstreams, taking accountability for delivery quality and client outcomes.
Bring structure and clarity to complex and ambiguous client challenges, translating strategy into practical execution.
Work comfortably across different transformation challenges rather than being defined by a single methodology or capability.
Build trusted relationships with senior stakeholders and become a valued advisor through the quality of your thinking and delivery.
Lead and develop teams of consultants, creating an environment where people can perform at their best.
Take ownership within our client accounts
Take responsibility for strategically important areas of client work, balancing excellent delivery with the broader needs of the account.
Build trusted senior client relationships and use your understanding of client priorities to identify, shape and support new consulting opportunities.
Contribute to account growth, proposals and business development activity, progressively taking greater commercial ownership as you develop towards Client Director.
Help build Gate One
Contribute to the continued growth of our Energy & Utilities work and the wider firm.
Bring ideas, intellectual curiosity and an entrepreneurial approach to solving problems.
Support propositions, thought leadership, bids and business development activity alongside colleagues across the firm.
Coach and develop consultants and contribute to the culture and community that makes Gate One distinctive.
About you
You will have around 10 years’ experience working within management consulting environments and will already be operating at an established senior level, with a strong track record of leading complex transformation engagements and teams.
We are looking for broad transformation leaders rather than narrow specialists. Your experience could span operating model, digital and technology transformation, organisational transformation, strategy execution or other major change programmes.
You will bring:
Excellent transformation delivery capability, with the ability to move from strategy and ambiguity into practical execution.
Experience leading multidisciplinary consulting teams and taking ownership for high-quality delivery.
The credibility and judgement to build trusted relationships with senior client stakeholders.
Experience contributing to account growth and business development, whether through expanding existing client relationships, shaping opportunities, leading proposals or supporting the conversion of new work.
Strong problem-solving skills and the versatility to turn your hand to different transformation challenges.
Self-awareness about your strengths and development areas, coupled with the ambition to continue growing as a consulting leader.
A collaborative and entrepreneurial approach aligned with Gate One’s culture and ways of working.
Energy & Utilities experience is advantageous, but it is not essential. We are equally interested in outstanding transformation consultants who can demonstrate an ability to learn new sectors quickly and operate effectively in complex client environments.
Experience in areas such as asset management, major capital programmes or energy-system transformation would be particularly interesting where combined with strong transformation consulting capability.
